Project Background

​

Marin County Fire is excited to begin work on a new fire station and headquarters at the San Geronimo Commons while maintaining the site’s role as a valued community hub. This new facility will become the heart of our operations, replacing most of the functions currently based at our aging Woodacre site. It will support everything from emergency response to firefighter training and special teams like Urban Search and Rescue and Swiftwater Rescue. With about 25,000 square feet of planned space, the new station will be built to modern safety and service standards, giving our crews the tools and environment they need to serve the community now and into the future.

 

The new station will be built specifically on the Clubhouse Parcel, a 25,000 square foot defined section of the San Geronimo Commons property. The rest of the land, open space with creeks and trails, is protected under a conservation easement and will remain just that: open and public. We’re committed to working closely with our Parks partners and the community to ensure the new station fits naturally into its surroundings, complements recreational uses, and respects this ecologically rich setting. Just as important, the new space will support firefighter wellness, with proper decontamination protocols, inclusive living quarters, and modern facilities built to meet growing demands. It will help us recruit and retain a strong workforce, support mental health, and ensure we’re caring for the firefighters who serve our community every day, now and into the future.​
